Who are the London Inreach Project?
A brief history
In 1978 a group of Grace Baptist pastors realised that Christians needed to move back into central London. Despite many church buildings and some fine preaching centres, people living in the heart of our capital city had little contact with the life changing gospel.
As a result the London Inreach Project (LIP) was established and in 1982 Michael Toogood moved into Soho with his family. Immanuel Community Church was eventually formed in 1987. Ten years later, work in Covent Garden, where Mike Mellor and his family had come to live, led to the formation of Covent Garden Evangelical Church.
In recent years these two small churches have been working more or less as one and they are planning to formalise this relationship. The LIP Committee, chaired by Gary Brady, supports their evangelistic aim. The task is challenging but God's hand continues, clearly, to be at work.
The nature of the West End
The West End attracts people from all over the world. It is a place where pleasure is the top priority. Yet for all its reputation as a 'posers paradise' it falls so far short of delivering true happiness.
In the middle of all this live 11,000, often very lonely, residents of Soho and Covent Garden . Some have a religious interest, some are very materialistic, some are looking for spiritual satisfaction through eastern philosophy or want to save the planet through ecological concern. All need to know the love of God in Christ Jesus.
